CHICAGO (NewsNation) — Loyola University Chicago’s own Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt turns 101 Friday.
Her birthday wish was simple: to see the students.
To grant her wish and celebrate a milestone birthday, the university is hosting a school-wide virtual birthday party Friday. The party will feature one of her favorite combinations, cake and ice cream.
Sister Jean has been the men’s basketball team chaplain since 1994, but the Final Four in 2018 gave her national fame.
Sister Jean is known for her bright smile and infamous hugs, but social distancing guidelines have made it more difficult to interact with Loyola students and fans.
Her virtual birthday party is sure to bring a smile back to everyone’s face.
Those joining the Zoom celebration are asked to bring their own cake and ice cream. Fans are encouraged to share photos on social media with the hashtag #SisterJean101.
Happy Birthday, Sister Jean!
