The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports the crash happened between Wright County Road 19 and County Road 18 that blocked the westbound lanes of the interstate. The crash happened at about 9:10 a.m. CT. As of 2 p.m., the lanes were still closed while cleanup continued.
In a statement, the Department of Public Safety said half of the 29 vehicles were semi-trucks. One truck was carrying a load of tractor tires.
MnDOT Traffic cameras in the area showed multiple vehicles involved in the crash. There were also a number of semi trucks that caught on fire, sending up large clouds of smoke.
Nine people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The State Patrol said there were 125 crashes as of 4:30 p.m. CT Thursday with a total of 13 injuries, two are serious.
