OSHKOSH, Wis. (News Nation/WFRV) – An Indiana man was arrested for allegedly traveling to Wisconsin to have sex with a teenage girl.

Federal prosecutors said Ronald Ortega, 47, of Dyer was arrested Monday at a hotel in Wisconsin. Ortega was subsequently charged with attempted production of child pornography and using a computer to attempt to persuade, induce, or entice a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.

Ortega began exchanging instant messages with “Lisa,” whom he believed was the mother of a 15-year-old girl living in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, according to authorities. Ortega allegedly expressed interest in having sex with the 15-year-old girl.

The criminal complaint said Ortega also sent pornographic images of children to “Lisa” and expressed an interest in digitally recording the sexual intercourse between himself and her child.

“Lisa” was a law enforcement agent working as part of Operation Kick Boxer, prosecutors said. The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the Milwaukee Division of the FBI, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Ortega faces at least 15 years in prison, if convicted.

In June, an Oshkosh man was also charged with two counts of distributing child pornography as part of Operation Kick Boxer.

Officials said Martin McKeever, 51, could receive a mandatory minimum sentence of five years behind bars, per count, if convicted.
