Delaware National Guard soldier dies in crash while delivering Thanksgiving meals

NEWARK, Del. (NewsNation Now) — A Delaware National Guard soldier was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 near Newark, Delaware Wednesday night while delivering Thanksgiving meals to members of the community.

Cpl. Erin Sasse, 25, from the Delaware Army National Guard’s 153rd Military Police Company had pulled off the road to help a disabled vehicle after witnessing an accident, according to the Delaware National Guard.

She was struck by another vehicle while trying to render aid. She later died at a local hospital.

“The Delaware National Guard lost a true Citizen Soldier all too soon,” said Maj. Gen. Michael Berry, Delaware National Guard’s Adjutant General. “Our hearts go out to her friends and family during this difficult time, as we all are reeling from this tragic news.”

Sasse is survived by her husband and three children.
