1-year-old killed in crash on Florida’s Alligator Alley

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (NewsNation Now) — Florida Highway Patrol recovered the body of a 1-year-old boy who was ejected from a car during a rollover crash on Alligator Alley in Broward County Thursday, according to NewsNation affiliate WFLA.

Authorities say the infant ejected from the vehicle fell into a portion of the canal. The infant was later found by a search team and was pronounced dead on scene.

The crash happened Thursday in the eastbound lanes of the roadway near Mile Marker 28 and left seven people with minor injuries, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the family is from Tampa and says the crash was caused by a tire blowout.

The name of the family has not been released.

Aerial footage showed rescue workers at the scene of the crash with divers in a nearby waterway.
